My hair story

The beginning. In all honesty I do not know how long I’ve been natural. I know that’s horrible! I remember being in the transition stage during my junior year in high as a child my mother always had my aunt braid my hair. I didn’t know it was called going natural at the time. I really do not know my hair history during my freshman and sophomore years in high school. Also I don’t have that many pictures of my hair transformation, because I didn’t know I had to.

Did you big chop? No ma’am! I did not big chop. I was scared, and I have a big head to that was a definite NO.  This was a step I skipped. I cut my permed ends over time. when I understood the transition that I was doing I assume that I was about three years post relaxer, and I just did what I wanted to my hair.

Problems?  I think my only problem is me with scissors I have cut my hair on countless number of times with paper scissors. Now let me defend myself, the parts of my hair that I was cutting was dead ends and damaged hair. my hair always grows back and it doesn't looks bad or cut unevenly but I promise I will not cut my hair with paper scissors anymore !

Do you have damaged hair? Yes. For a long time I would go to the Dominicans to get my hair straighten. The heat from the hooded dryer, the hand held dryer, and the flat iron was too much for me to handle.  Including the force used to get my hair straight. The damage to my hair also came from me not knowing what or how to do my hair. I would be very rough with my hair, I would force combs, brushes, etc. though my hair.  Also I got my hair dyed for the first time, I got highlights, then in August 2014 I dyed my hair again, and lastly I dyed my hair in February 2015, now I have split ends and very dry hair. I do not believe that the dye was the 100% cause of my hair damage but I think it was a mixture of a lot of things that has happened over a period of time

My favorite natural hairstyles are twist outs and wash n’ go’s. I only like doing these two hairstyles because it’s easy and quick to do.  I'm really not good at doing braids or putting perm rods in my hair , so let my friends do it. I realized from my research of natural hair and going through my natural hair journey I noticed that a lot of women doesn't like for other people to do their hair. But I BJ loves it. I've always like for others to do my hair. I honestly don't see the wrong in it, but please do what makes you comfortable.

As of now I'm still learning what my likes and dislike. Also what products that goes well with my hair.  I'm also currently taking hair vitamins. I can see that my is starting to be easy to detangle and my also notice that curl pattern is starting to change, I don't know if I should be scared or if its my true curl pattern but I'm going to stick to, all and all its just hair.

I want to hear from you send me letters!!

Special thanks to Michelle Hutchinson, Alexis Reed, Kayla White
